Food: Best in Show

Every year Australia’s food judges decide on the best produce in the land. But how right are they? Journalist and cheese judge Mike Butler went behind the scenes of the pinnacle food competition, the Sydney Royal, to find out not only what it takes to get a gold medal but whether they’re worth the hype. Story will come with interviews with the chief judges along with details of the must have products for 2016.

  3. It’s enlightening to wrap around Mike Butler's book that deals with the inner workings of one of Australia's top gastraward competitions. It’s always interesting to reflect on how gastronomic referees arrive at their decisions, although I do wonder how much bias there is. Considering the wide range of phenomenal local producers, I can only imagine how difficult it must be to pick the undisputed best. The Dairy Omung is certainly gaining recognition for the delicious fresh dairy products they produce, especially as the competition for quality milk and fresh cream increases. It will be great to gain further insights on how dairy products are judged in these competitions!
